The next day at lunch, Megan, Aaron , and I sat at the usual table doing all the usual things. Everything was normal, but then Courtney, a popular girl, sat down at our table. I glared at her because she had never even looked at me before, let alone come close to me.
"Hey Courtney!" Said Aaron. He knew her from other classes. I could tell they talked quite often.
"Hi Aaron...And the rest of ya'll! Like, How are you doing?"
"Jim-dandy," I muttered while still eating. I didn't even know what that meant. How did that come out?
"How about you?" asked Megan. She had always been real polite.
"Oh, I'm fine."
"That's good," Megan replied.
Over the course of the lunch period, I talked to Courtney and I really got to know her better. She actually didn't seem that bad. Maybe I just remembered her different or perhaps people really do change. I was a lot different when I was little. I had a real bad temper and I chased people around trying to bite them. Now, if I told somebody to shut up, everyone was shocked.
I made as many friends this year as I had in my entire life before this. Well, that's not counting Kindergarten, because everybody is your friend in Kindergarten. Kids never judge each other and they accept everyone. As they get older, they only care about themselves. People can learn a lot from kids. They just don't realize it. They're too caught up in thinking they're the smart ones and they try to teach the children.
School teaches you name-calling, and bossing smaller, less powerful people around. And it's illegal not to go.
